Rickety Kate is a trick-taking card game where players aim to earn the lowest score. In each round, players compete by playing cards from the same suit, with the player holding the highest card of that suit losing the trick. Notably, winning a trick may not always be advantageous.

In Rickety Kate, the Queen of Spades holds a value of 10 points against the player, while other Spades accumulate 1 point each. Upon emptying their hand, players are dealt a new one.

Players can achieve a score of zero by collecting all Spades in a hand, known as 'Shooting the Moon.' Prior to each round, participants pass three of their lowest cards to an adjacent player, with Aces and Kings considered as such.
